On 25 Oct 1854, as part of the Crimean war, the British Light Brigade charged the well positioned Russian guns through a valley near Sevastopol, Ukraine. An order to charge was misinterpreted and as a result the Light Brigade charged the wrong guns, over a mile away, resulting in a large number of casualties by the time they reached the Russians.
The 13th Light Dragoons, an antecedent regiment to what is now the The Light Dragoons, formed part of the front line and, though the charge itself was a defeat, the Regiment marks the day with a parade to recognize the incredible bravery of the Light Brigade, and a reading of Alfred Lord Tennyson's now famous poem.
